Clinical Social Worker/Therapist
Caroline Newman has a Bachelor of Arts with a major in French from the University of New Brunswick in Saint John, and a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Maine at Presque Isle. She is a member in good standing with the New Brunswick Association of Social Workers.
Caroline has experience working with children and youth struggling with anxiety, depression, personality disorders, and addiction. She has had experience counselling adults with addiction and mental health challenges in both inpatient and outpatient settings. She has also completed mental health assessments with children and youth as well as adults.
Caroline has worked in a variety of fields including addiction and mental health services, community outreach, homeless shelters, and an inpatient rehabilitation centre for adults struggling with addiction and concurrent mental health disorders. Her advocacy has even reached author Stephen King, who awarded her undergraduate field placement facility with funding through a grant proposal she wrote while studying in Maine.
Her passion for social work stems from her desire to help others recognize their resilience regardless of their past or present challenges.
As a therapist I provide a warm, comfortable and non-judgemental environment for my clients to discuss their vulnerabilities and challenges. I believe it is important to begin where the client is in their journey and provide an opportunity for them to feel heard, understood and validated. I work from a strength-based model, and help clients understand their challenges as resiliencies. It is important to focus on the self, first, in order to begin setting and pursuing goals and to make positive changes.
My goal is to work with each client and to develop a plan for change and healing collaboratively. It is important that my clients understand their self-worth and that getting well is possible. As a social worker I recognize the importance of the dignity and worth of each person, respecting confidentiality, and providing a safe environment to heal. Our difficulties make us stronger, and our resilience is often muted by the overwhelm of life’s circumstances. We will work together to strengthen the self in order to recover.
"The pain you feel today is the strength you feel tomorrow. For every challenge encountered, there is opportunity for growth."

Mental health and physical health are deeply connected. Those living with mental health challenges are at higher risk of experiencing many chronic physical conditions. Conversely, those living with chronic physical health conditions are more likely to experience poor mental health. Taking care of your mental health is a key part of taking care of your overall physical health and wellness. The link between body and mind is powerful.
