We see you. We seeing you losing faith in what feels like a broken world. Trauma's most devastating impact on humans can be a complete shattering of how you view the world.
You are forced to accept that your safety and security is not guaranteed. Sometimes bad things happen to good people. The first hand exposure to human suffering and cruelty is real.
Trauma wants you to self-doubt and interact differently with others.
Trauma wants you to see the world with anxiety and fear.
It changes the way you make assumptions and judgments
You are exhausted.
You may experience sleepless nights, depression, nightmares and mood swings. These may feel normal, they aren’t.
You can find yourself again after trauma. There is a revised meaning to life with safety and security that can be found. That includes activities you used to enjoy and finding a sense of purpose again. You don’t have to remember your trauma for it to be valid.
Many times our brains block out details as a protective mechanism. Even if you don’t believe me, your family needs you right now. You can redefine how you see yourself and the world around you. Healing from trauma is possible. You do not need to downplay your struggles. Just because you can tolerate mental pain doesn't mean that you should continue to do so.
We work with trauma nearly every day and Joelle is training in a complimentary trauma treatment strategy known as Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR). It can help you reduce how distressing your trauma memories are.
