It is your responsibility to ensure your sessions are covered by your policy. It is also your responsibility to know the limit of insurance coverage.

  • Yes, our associates practice from several clinical frameworks with CBT being one of them. CBT stands for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy; it is a well-established, effective and lasting treatment that can help with various issues including anxiety, depression, addiction, relationship issues and chronic pain. CBT involves problem solving and learning helpful strategies to practice between sessions. It focuses on identifying and understanding unhelpful thinking patterns to help change the way you feel. You are actively involved in your treatment and are often expected to do some homework between sessions. You can learn to control your thinking, maintain a sense of control and self-confidence and learn positive coping skills.

  • This is very individual and varies from person to person depending on the nature and severity of the problem, desired goals and level of engagement from the client. Generally, many people see significant improvement in 8-12 sessions, some after as little as 3 sessions. Most clients attend sessions bi-weekly however this is adjusted based on your needs and schedule. You can discuss this further at your first session. You are always in control of your therapy, working at your own pace, and can choose the frequency and length to best suit your needs.

  • There is plenty of free parking on-site, conveniently located beside and behind our office building. Our office in Saint John is wheelchair accessible. Our office in Fredericton is NOT wheelchair accessible.

  • Yes. We have associates on staff who work with children. We will work to match you with the therapist best suited to meet your needs. We work with children as young as one.

  • Clients can cancel or reschedule with a minimum of 24 hours notice, otherwise you will be charged for the session. A late cancellation (less than 24 hours notice) will result in a half session charge, and a no show will be charged a full session rate.

Our therapists, like other self-employed professionals, are not on salary and are only paid per session. A late cancellation or no show can result in losing a significant portion of their planned income for that day. Thank you for your understanding.

We understand that life happens and it's not always possible to provide sufficient notice. Prior to booking, consider having a back up plan for non-crisis situations to ensure you're able to make it to counselling should something come up. Arranging back up childcare or alternate transportation methods on the date of your appointment can be helpful. We also offer the ability to change your session to electronic should you be unable to attend in person, for any reason (keep in mind, a credit card must be on file or the method of payment must be in place prior to switching to virtual). Laura Gatien & Associates will send appointment reminders for your sesison, however it is your responsibility to keep track of your appointments. Keeping up to date on your weekly schedule along with a back up plan are all helpful ways to avoid paying for a session you didn't attend.
