Amy Buckley is a registered social worker who holds a Master Degree in Clinical Social Work from the University of Calgary as well as a Bachelor of Social Work and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, Psychology and Gerontology from St. Thomas University.

Amy has worked in various fields including school based social work, addictions and mental health, front line counselling and not-for-profit community development.

Through these employment, and educational experiences Amy has gained experience helping children/youth, adults and older adults who are facing challenges related to anxiety, depression, gender identity, life transitions, trauma, relationship or family issues, grief/loss, self-esteem and other stressors that affect all of us at some point in our lives.

As a wife and newer mom herself, she has personal interest in the well-being of mothers and fathers, parenting with the modern demands placed on families, and "juggling it all".

She knows first hand the struggles that come with parenting, marriage and the importance of communication.

Her approach is flexible and prioritizes clients as the experts in their lives. She uses a collaborative approach that emphasizes individuals’ strengths and capabilities as well as their struggles.

My Approach

My Approach

I understand that seeking out support can be very tough, but a brave decision. Our emotional and mental health are as vital as our physical health and I see therapy as a form of self-care for our overall well being. I love when clients share with me that they have taken a "self care day" from their busy lives to come in for therapy,  go to their favourite exercise class, go for a massage, and maybe get their nails done! Prioritizing our wellbeing is so essential!

In sessions together, you can expect to work collaboratively to become more resilient and better able to cope with your experience. I work from a variety of methods to create a tailored approach that is unique to the individual and situation. I recognize that you are the expert of your own life and experience, but I can support by implementing strategies from various counselling therapies. My approach includes the use of CBT, mindfulness and self-compassion, narrative therapy, strengths based and solutions focused approaches. I am passionate about helping individuals to not just get through tough problems but thrive and find joy and purpose in their lives.

I also believe that use of humour, a non-judgmental approach, and a positive therapeutic connection are key for successful healing and meaningful learning. I strive to be warm, inviting and easy to talk to. I am genuine, compassionate and truly care about you, what you are struggling with and I am vested in the work I do with clients.

"The pain you feel today is the strength you feel tomorrow. For every challenge encountered, there is opportunity for growth."
