Trauma Counselling in New Brunswick
Trauma might leave a mark, but it doesn’t have to define your life. Whether it’s from a single overwhelming event or a series of painful experiences over time, trauma can affect how you think, feel and relate to others. You might find yourself feeling anxious, shut down, on edge or stuck in the past. These responses are not signs of weakness—they are survival responses. But you don’t have to live in survival mode forever.
Trauma therapy offers a safe, supportive path toward healing and reclaiming your life.
What is Trauma?
Trauma can take many forms. You might be carrying the impact of:
Abuse or neglect (past or present)
A serious accident or medical crisis
Sexual assault or violence
Sudden loss or grief
Childhood trauma or developmental trauma
Past or ongoing toxic or unhealthy relationships
Trauma can also be subtle and complex. It’s not just what happened—it’s how it affected you, your nervous system and your sense of safety in the world.
How we can help
You may be wondering if things can ever feel normal again. Trauma therapy helps you:
Understand your emotional and physical responses
Work through painful memories at your own pace
Reconnect with a sense of safety and stability
Reduce symptoms like anxiety, panic or emotional numbness
Learn grounding and coping skills for daily life
Rebuild trust, confidence and self-compassion
Healing takes time, but you don’t have to do it alone. Our trauma-informed therapists walk alongside you with care and expertise.
We offer trauma counselling online and in-person in Saint John and Fredericton.
How Trauma Counselling Works
Every trauma story is unique, and so is every healing journey. We take a gentle, client-centered approach that respects your pace and comfort. Depending on your needs and preferences, therapy may include:
Talk therapy to explore your experiences and emotions
Somatic therapy (body-based techniques) to regulate the nervous system
EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement De-sensitization and Reprocessing) for processing traumatic memories
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to help shift unhelpful beliefs that stem from trauma
Emotion-focused therapy to transform painful emotions through secure connection and corrective emotional experiences
The first step in connecting with a trauma counsellor in Fredericton or Saint John is to fill out this form. Based on your requirements, we’ll match you with someone we feel is best suited to help you and your partner.
Counselling sessions can be conducted in-person or virtually, whichever you prefer. Sessions typically run 50 minutes long. How often you attend sessions is discussed collaboratively and is based on your needs and schedule.
You are always in control of your therapy, working at your own pace, and can choose the frequency and length to best suit your needs.
How much does trauma therapy cost?
Sessions with a registered social worker (RSW) or licensed counselling therapist (LCT) are $150 for 50 minutes.
For Family, Couples, EMDR or Play Therapy, sessions are $160 for 50 minutes.
Our counselling fees are not covered by Medicare but are covered by many extended health insurance plans.
Our clinic has therapists who are either registered social workers (RSW) or Licensed Counselling Therapists (LCT).
You must check your specific plan for what you have coverage for, as coverage is different for each policy. Verify that your plan covers counselling/therapy with a MSW, RSW or LCT. Your insurance may state you have coverage for clinical counsellor or psychotherapist, which would cover LCT or social worker.
We also offer direct billing with many different insurance companies, which allows you to keep more money in your pocket. We can direct bill Blue Cross, Veterans Affairs (VAC), Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), Canada Life, Claim Secure, Chamber of Commerce, Work Safe, NIHB, Department of Social Development, and more provided your plan is set up for direct billing. Your are still responsible for any co-pay amounts at the time of service.
