Postpartum Therapy in New Brunswick

Bringing a new baby into the world can be joyful, but it can also feel overwhelming, isolating and exhausting. Many new parents experience mood changes, anxiety or depression after childbirth. This is more common than you might think, and it’s nothing to be ashamed of.

A new baby can also put strain on even the strongest relationships — with less sleep, more stress, and little time for connection, couples can start to feel distant or misunderstood. It’s important to know that you’re not alone, and help is available.

Postpartum therapy is a safe, supportive space to talk through what you’re feeling, learn strategies to cope, and start feeling like yourself again. Whether you’re struggling with sadness, anxiety, irritability or just not feeling like the parent you want to be, therapy can help.

How we can help

Our licensed therapists specialize in postpartum mental health and understand the emotional, physical and relational changes that happen after a baby is born. We offer:

  • One-on-one therapy for postpartum depression, anxiety, intrusive thoughts or birth trauma

  • Support for partners navigating their own adjustment and emotions

  • Tools to manage stress, regulate emotions and improve sleep

  • A focus on rebuilding confidence and connection with yourself and your baby

  • Virtual and in-person sessions available to suit your schedule and comfort

We use evidence-based approaches like cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), emotion focused therapy (EFT) mindfulness and compassion-focused therapy tailored to your needs.

WHO WE help

We work with:

  • New moms who feel sad, anxious, angry or numb

  • Parents recovering from difficult or traumatic birth experiences

  • Families struggling to adjust to life with a new baby

  • Partners who feel overwhelmed or disconnected

  • Parents experiencing grief, identity shifts or loss of independence

  • Individuals of all genders and family structures — all are welcome

How Postpartum Therapy Works

The first step in connecting with a postpartum counsellor in Fredericton or Saint John is to fill out this form. Our booking coordinator takes great care in thoughtfully matching you with a therapist who fits your needs, preferences and availability.

Prefer to get started right away? You can also take our therapist matching quiz — a quick and easy way to connect with an available therapist who’s the right fit for your postpartum journey. Based on your requirements, we’ll match you with someone we feel is best suited to help you.

How often you attend sessions is discussed collaboratively and is based on your needs and schedule. You are always in control of your therapy, working at your own pace, and can choose the frequency and length to best suit your needs.

Once matched, your therapist will work with you to explore what you're going through, set goals and provide personalized support. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, depression, identity shifts or relationship stress, your sessions will be tailored to help you feel more like yourself again. Therapy can be short-term or ongoing — it’s flexible, baby-friendly and available both virtually and in person across New Brunswick.

Therapy sessions with a registered social worker (RSW) or licensed counselling therapist (LCT) are $150 for 50 minutes.

For Family, Couples, EMDR or Play Therapy, sessions are $160 for 50 minutes.

How much does postpartum therapy cost?

Is postpartum therapy covered by insurance?

Our counselling fees are not covered by Medicare but are covered by many extended health insurance plans.

Our clinic has therapists who are either registered social workers (RSW) or Licensed Counselling Therapists (LCT).

You must check your specific plan for what you have coverage for, as coverage is different for each policy. Verify that your plan covers counselling/therapy with a MSW, RSW or LCT. Your insurance may state you have coverage for clinical counsellor or psychotherapist, which would cover LCT or social worker.

We also offer direct billing with many different insurance companies, which allows you to keep more money in your pocket. We can direct bill Blue Cross, Veterans Affairs (VAC), Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), Canada Life, Claim Secure, Chamber of Commerce, Work Safe, NIHB, Department of Social Development, and more provided your plan is set up for direct billing. You are still responsible for any co-pay amounts at the time of service.
