The current pandemic is giving us a chance to re evaluate many things in our lives, from who we hang out with to how we spend our money and our time.
Let's talk about the power of our environment. Jen Sincero has a quote that says “The people you surround yourself with are excellent mirrors for who you are, and how much or how little you love yourself”.
Research has shown us that environment is the number one predictor of our success in life. It highly influences our decision making and how we feel about ourselves as well as our happiness overall. It has a huge influence on our behavior. People don’t often like to admit this, but when we dig deep it's often very true.
We learn a lot about people from the minute we meet them. There’s a reason we are interested in them, it could be because we are attracted to the similarities we see in ourselves or others in our life. Start to pay attention to this and what attracts you to different people and ask yourself if it's for the right reasons, reasons that will help get you where you want to be.
I encourage everyone to look at their social circle and ask yourself how the people you spend the most time with make you feel. I personally try to spend time with people who demonstrate the qualities I’m working on.
Mentors who I can learn new skills from, in business, marriage and parenting. People who do things better in areas I’m looking to get better in.
We need to practice evaluating if those in our environment support who we want to be and how we want to feel. For example, If you want to stop drinking, you must stop spending time with people who drink to drastically increase your chances for success.
When we choose our environment intentionally, we can influence our mood and how we feel about ourselves as well as can increase or decrease our stress. Tune in, reflect and adjust accordingly.
