About Me
Hello, I’m Maeve. I am a Licensed Counselling Therapist Candidate with the College of Licensed Counselling Therapists of New Brunswick. I am passionate about helping people overcome their personal challenges in order to grow and reach their full potential.
I offer a safe and empathetic space where clients can explore their concerns and work collaboratively to make the changes that are important to them.
My Experience
My passion for counselling developed out of my own personal healing journey in therapy. Since then, I have been studying, working, and researching in the area of mental health for over ten years. I am fortunate to hold an undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Saskatchewan and a master’s degree in counselling from the University of Lethbridge. I have worked in many roles in the mental health field including providing personal support, recreation services, research support, mental health education, and suicide prevention and intervention training. I also completed an eight-month counselling practicum with Just Us Inc. which offers free and low-cost counselling services in Fredericton and Saint John.
My Approach
I believe that mental health struggles are often rooted in negative life experiences that lead to unconscious patterns and beliefs that we carry with us throughout our lives. I also believe that each client is unique and requires a tailored approach to counselling. Therefore, I offer a trauma informed and individualized approach that is based on the latest research and draws from various therapeutic approaches including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), dialectic behavioural therapy (DBT), eye movement reprocessing and desensitization (EMDR) therapy, and emotion-focused therapy (EFT).
My approach is also goal-oriented and strengths-based.
Who I See
I offer services in English both in-person and virtually for youths (16+), adults, and couples.
My Practice
I work with clients to develop a strong relationship and offer tools and techniques to facilitate self-awareness, emotional acceptance and growth and the development of new skills. I specialize in supporting clients facing a wide range of challenges including stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, interpersonal violence, self-esteem issues, and grief and loss. I am also committed to offering a flexible approach that is based on client goals and strengths.
