Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) in New Brunswick & Online

Relationships can be one of the greatest sources of comfort and connection in our lives, but when communication breaks down or emotional wounds build over time, they can also become a source of stress, conflict and loneliness.

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is an evidence-based approach that helps individuals, couples and families better understand emotions, strengthen connection and create healthier relationship patterns. Rather than focusing only on surface-level conflict, EFT helps uncover the deeper emotional needs and patterns driving those struggles.

How We Can Help

EFT can support people experiencing:

  • Relationship conflict and communication difficulties

  • Emotional distance or disconnection

  • Trust issues and attachment wounds

  • Anxiety, depression and emotional overwhelm

  • Repeating unhealthy relationship patterns

  • Difficulty expressing emotions or needs

  • Family conflict and parenting stress

  • Grief, loss or life transitions impacting relationships

  • Trauma that affects emotional connection and safety

Through EFT, clients learn to better understand the emotions underneath their reactions and develop healthier ways of responding to themselves and others.

who we help

We use EFT to support:

  • Couples seeking to improve communication, rebuild trust, strengthen intimacy or navigate conflict and major life transitions.

  • Individuals who want to better understand their emotions, relationship patterns, attachment style or the impact of past experiences on current relationships.

  • Parents, caregivers, teens and family members working to improve communication, reduce conflict and strengthen emotional connection.

EFT can be especially helpful for people who feel stuck in recurring emotional or relational patterns and want to create deeper, more secure connections.

We offer Emotionally Focused Therapy in-person in Fredericton and Saint John, as well as online for people across New Brunswick.

How EFT Works

EFT focuses on identifying and changing the emotional patterns that keep people feeling disconnected or stuck.

In therapy, we work together to:

  • Identify recurring emotional and relationship patterns

  • Explore the underlying emotions driving conflict or withdrawal

  • Strengthen emotional awareness and communication

  • Build safer, more secure ways of connecting

  • Develop healthier responses to stress and emotional triggers

  • Foster trust, empathy, and emotional closeness

Rather than assigning blame, EFT helps people understand the cycle they are caught in and learn how to respond differently.

Sessions are collaborative, supportive and paced in a way that feels emotionally safe and manageable.

How much does EFT cost?

Sessions with a registered social worker (RSW) or licensed counselling therapist (LCT) are $160 for 50 minutes.

Is EFT covered by insurance?

Our counselling fees are not covered by Medicare but are covered by many extended health insurance plans. We partner with Veterans Affairs Canada or Canadian Armed Forces and can direct bill them.

Our clinic has therapists who are either registered social workers (RSW) or Licensed Counselling Therapists (LCT).

You must check your specific plan for what you have coverage for, as coverage is different for each policy. Verify that your plan covers counselling/therapy with a MSW, RSW or LCT. Your insurance may state you have coverage for clinical counsellor or psychotherapist, which would cover LCT or social worker.

We also offer direct billing with many different insurance companies, which allows you to keep more money in your pocket. We can direct bill Blue Cross, Veterans Affairs (VAC), Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), Canada Life, Claim Secure, Chamber of Commerce, Work Safe, NIHB, Department of Social Development, and more provided your plan is set up for direct billing. You are still responsible for any co-pay amounts at the time of service.
