About Me

Hi! I'm Tia Richard, a Licensed Counselling Therapist - Candidate. I feel that the best foundation for personal growth and healing is learning how to be kind to ourselves. I live in Fredericton and I enjoy roller skating, fiber arts - particularly crochet and sewing, and hanging out at any one of our city's many beautiful patio venues with friends in the summertime.

My Experience

I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of New Brunswick, and graduated with my Master of Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. I majored in Political Science in my undergrad, which has informed my practice so much. Mental health does not exist in a vacuum and is subject to whatever systems the individual is living within, and this reality is acknowledged in my practice alongside the fact that we do have some level of power over our internal circumstances.

Prior to graduating with my Master’s, I worked in university admissions. In this role, I coached potential students on their career prospects, resume building and educational choices. In my time since graduation, I have worked with adult clients dealing with many different issues, such as anxiety, depression, anger, low self-esteem, grief, stress and burnout, postpartum depression/stressors related to parenting, estrangement, suicidal ideation, neurodiversity such as ADHD and autism, and substance use disorder/sobriety maintenance.

My Approach

I strongly believe in a strengths-based, trauma-informed approach combined with Compassion Focused Therapy. I enjoy employing somatic techniques as coping skills to improve the mind/body connection. By using our senses, we can encourage our mind to remain present during times of high anxiety and activation, helping with emotional regulation. I encourage my clients to begin by exploring the past, so that I may offer a new perspective on patterns they may not have observed themselves, and to potentially find the roots of issues that they're dealing with today.

Who I see

I work with adult individuals (18+).

My Practice

Recognizing and celebrating the little wins and increasing self-compassion over time gets your internal validation and motivational gears going towards continued success. In my office, the goal isn't just symptom management, we're working towards you living your best life.
